Christmas Lights Switch On - In and around Kettering

The magic of Aladdin switches on Kettering's Christmas lights

Kettering Borough Council is proud to announce that the stars of the Lighthouse Theatre production of Aladdin will join the Mayor of Kettering to switch on the Christmas Lights on Kettering's multi-award winning new market Place on Saturday 27th November. Big Brother's Nikki Grahame, singer David Van Day and X Factor's Daniel Fox will be among those attending the event. Hundreds of people are expected in Kettering's Town Centre for the event, which will start at 2:30pm and include entertainment from the Gretton Silver Band, Streetdance groups Crew 2 and Mirra Image, the Wicky Bear Show and the winner of this year's K Factor. Children will even have the chance to ride a specially arranged little red fun bus from the Newlands Centre to the Market Place throughout the day.

The lights will be turned on at 5:15pm and the winners of the Ho Ho Holiday competition will be presented with their prize of a family holiday worth £600.

Valerie Hitchman, Kettering Borough Council's Head of Community Services said, "We are delighted to be working with the Lighthouse Theatre to bring such big names to Kettering 's Big Switch On. I hope that people will come to our market place to support the Big Switch On in Kettering this year."

Cllr Mark Dearing, portfolio holder for retail and business said, "Every year we manage to attract household names to Kettering for our Big Switch On and this year is no different. Ten empty town centre shops have been filled in the past few months and I hope that hundreds of people will come out for the Big Switch On and use the opportunity to visit our shops and restaurants."

The Big Switch On will mark the beginning of late night shopping in the town centre and a full programme of events on Kettering 's Market Place to celebrate Christmas. These celebrations will include:

  • Christmas Singalong - Thursday 9th December
  • Christmas Market - Saturday 12th December
  • The installation of a temporary ice rink from Thursday 16th to Thursday 23rd December
