Do you know someone who is truly inspirational, someone who always strives to do their best? Kettering Borough Council is encouraging its residents to nominate people who they feel should be one of only 8,000 people nationally to be an official Torchbearer for the London 2012 Olympic Games Torch during its 70 day Relay across the UK.
Cllr Steve Bellamy, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Culture said: “we all know people who have inspired us and have made a difference to their communities. It would be fantastic if Kettering Borough was represented with a Torchbearer from the area and a real honour for them to be part of the Olympics.”
Valerie Hitchman, Head of Community Services said: “the torch is so symbolic of the Olympics and we would encourage people to nominate someone who they feel is a true inspiration. We will be nominating someone from the community and hope that many other people nominate too. While we’ve no guarantee that our nominations will be successful, if you don’t nominate you’ll never know!”
Organised by LOCOG, nominations for the 8,000 Torch Bearers are open until 29 June 2011 with full details found on their website www.london2012.com/olympictorchrelay
Notes to Editor:
Only nominations submitted through the official channels will be considered.
Each leg of the relay is 300m.
