With one year to go until Olympic Fever sweeps the nation Northamptonshire is celebrating this weekend with the Blaze! Dance Relay. To celebrate the Cultural Olympiad weekend Kettering Borough Council have organised a day of celebration on Kettering Market Place this Saturday finishing with the Blaze Dance Relay team who would have already performed in Corby, Daventry and Wellingborough.
Kettering’s Blaze Dance Festival will bring a variety of dance and music acts to the Market Place throughout the day from 10.30am. This will include the Dance Challenge 2011 winners ‘Starlight Dance’, Northamptonshire Blaze Dance Relay group, Anderson School of Dance, a free Zumba class for all and host Gregg Nunney of Connect Fm!
- 10.30am to 11am - Street Dance workshop and Performance (William Knibb)
- 11.15am to 12.15pm – Free Zumba class for all
- 12.15pm to 1pm – Red Thunder - Rock n Roll music
- 1pm to 1.20pm - Street Dance - Anderson School of Dance
- 1.30pm to 2.15pm – MC Rumpus (Drum & Bass / Reggae MC) and DJ OP1 (Hip-hop turntablist)
- 2.15pm to 3pm – Starlight Dance - Dance Challenge Winners 2011
- 3pm – Blaze Dance Relay - County Cultural Olympiad event
- Kfed will be running a Tombola, face painting, art activities, and refreshments
- Olympic mascot - Wenlock will attend 10:30am to 12:30pm.
The Blaze! Dance Relay is an exciting dance project involving community performances in five outdoor areas of Northamptonshire and culminating in a finale extravaganza of performances, for people of any age and background to take part.
The Blaze! Dance Relay will be taking place on the Market Place at 3pm and is an opportunity to be part of a record-breaking dance routine with hundreds of people dancing together and celebrating dance throughout Northamptonshire.

Dance Relay. Kettering Market Place has a great line-up throughout the day with a variety of dance and music act for all ages so don’t forget to pop down and be part of the celebrations.”

The Cultural Olympiad Weekend is being celebrated in Northamptonshire with the Blaze! Dance Relay. Dance Performances will take place at the following times:
- 12pm – Outside Corby Cube,
- 1pm – Daventry Leisure Centre,
- 2pm – The Castle, Wellingborough,
- 3pm – Kettering Market Place,
- 4pm – Towcester Centre for Leisure.
This is the opening day of Kettering’s Summer Celebrations and the ‘Kettering by the Sea’ sandpit will also be open all day on the Market Place.
Kettering Borough Council will also be celebrating the weekend with free activities on the track and pitch at Kettering Leisure Centre on Sunday 24th July, 1pm to 4pm. Each sport sessions will last 45 minutes and participants will have the opportunity to choose three from Judo, Athletics, Volleyball and Hockey.
