On Saturday 24th September Kettering Borough Council is opening a new exhibition at the Manor House museum. It features the proposals of BBC’s Restoration architect Ptolemy Dean for Kettering Parish Church. Visitors will be taken through the history of the church and its uses over the centuries to the ideas and plans for its future. The exhibition will include paintings, photographs and Church registers borrowed from Northampton Record Office which are on public display for the first time.
Valerie Hitchman, Head of Community Services says “ While collecting research for this project we uncovered some interesting historical accounts of the church and the people of the town. This got us thinking, perhaps it was time we collect some new stories and photographs to represent the people of the town today. “
People can submit their stories when they visit the Exhibition or by e-mailing museum@kettering.gov.uk
The stories will be on display throughout the exhibition and will later be added to the museum’s permanent collection for future generations of the town to enjoy.
Councillor Steve Bellamy says,” I am looking forward to seeing what memories people have of St Peter and St Paul Kettering, especially if they have photos. This is a great way for local people to be able to add to the museum’s collection.”
Kettering Borough Council is delighted to have won the prestigious 'Museum of the Year Award' in the Northamptonshire Heritage Awards 2011.
The Manor House Museum is situated in Sheep Street, Kettering, easy to get to by train, bus or by car. It is near the library and close to the parish church of SS Peter and Paul.
