Kettering Borough Council’s award winning Manor House Museum is set to host a new exhibition on the theme of Superheroes for the summer school holidays.
With themes such as ‘Super powers’, ‘Comic book collecting’, Comic book art’, and ‘Comics from around the world’, there is something to keep everyone entertained, from children to adults alike! As well as facts, figures and history, there are also fun games to test out your knowledge such as 'How well do you know your Superhero?' and a 'Guess the theme tune'. And as if all of this isn’t enough there are Superhero dressing-up clothes, worksheets and more!
The exhibition will encourage visitors to think back to the age of cave paintings and the Bayeaux Tapestry to understand just how long people have been using pictures to tell stories. It then focuses on the birth of the comic book in the 1930s.
Summer Holiday Children’s Art and Craft Activities
The Manor House Museum and Alfred East Art Gallery are also putting on their usual programme of children’s holiday art and craft workshops, with a different workshop taking place on each day of the holidays (Tuesdays – Fridays) and a new theme each week. The first week will kick off with ‘Beside the Sea’ activities to coincide with Kettering’s popular ‘Kettering by the Sea’ annual event on the town centre Market Place. There will then be a week of ‘Superhero’ related activities which will be followed by themes ranging from ‘Dinosaurs’ to ‘Space’.
Workshops last approximately 1 hour and places are limited so booking is highly recommended.
Head of Community Services, Valerie Hitchman said, “It’s good to see Kettering Borough’s museum hosting yet another family friendly exhibition for the school holidays, adding to the fantastic summer holiday programme already on offer in Kettering Town Centre and beyond”.
Cllr Steve Bellamy said “What a wonderful way of getting all of the family involved in a visit to their local museum!”
The Manor House Museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, 9:30am – 4:45pm.
Entry is free and all are welcome.
