The finale to Kattering Museum and Art Gallery's October school holiday 'Archaeology Activity Week' sees the Roman’s coming to town for a free family event at the Manor House Museum from 10am - 4pm
Kettering Museum and Art Gallery has been a popular place to visit this October school holidays and the fun hasn't ended yet! Kettering Borough Council has been offering a variety of family events, storytelling sessions, clay and craft workshops and more, all on the theme of archaeology to compliment the Museum's current Hallaton Treasure Travelling Exhibition.
The event will now take place at the Manor House Museum and there will be a chance to meet Roman soldier Flavinus and Iron Age woman Seren and discover what life was like 2000 years ago. Visitors can choose which age they would prefer to come from and make either a Roman helmet or some Iron Age jewellery at the Market Place. They can then visit the museum and make an Iron Age coin to take home.
And as if that all wasn't enough, Julie Cassidy, the Finds Liaison Officer for Northamptonshire's Portable Antiquities Scheme will at the Museum on Saturday 30 October from 1 - 4pm offering her free service for visitors to bring along any objects or treasures they may have found to be identified. There will also be a chance to learn more about the scheme from Julie and her display of previous records and finds.
The Museum has also extended the hugely popular Archaeological Sandpit Dig by one extra day so Saturday will be another chance to experience life as an archaeologist. This is a fun and free drop in activity where children of all ages can learn more about the processes involved with archaeological digs. Children should be accompanied by an adult.
