Specialist Quarters

The Area Action Plan has set the town centre into a number of distinct but complementary quarters and is supported by the appropriate planning policies. A new shopping quarter for high street brands, a niche retail quarter, a restaurant quarter and a leisure quarter make up some of the new areas of the town. There are also plans to invest in transportation and new high grade, high density office space, capitalising on Kettering’s ease of access to London’s St. Pancras Station.

The aim is to create a memorable and enjoyable experience of wandering around the town, discovering new shops and experiences along the way.

The different quarters will each have there own character, but will be in keeping with the overall heritage of the town.  The first quarter to begin development, the restaurant quarter, has already got off to a good start.  The new Market Place which lies at the centre of the Restaurant Quarter won the regional town planning award beating off competition from the likes of Leicester’s High Cross Shopping Centre.

Any redevelopment should be characterful to reflect the locality. The quality of design must be high. Material quality must be high. In creating a characterful experience, distinctive zones are advantageous. The area must have ambience and shoppers must feel free to enjoy a quality atmosphere and environment. In short, anonymous developments that could be anywhere should be resisted.
